Are You Inviting Gum Diseases?

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 11:37 am under Gums

Good health is in our hands to an extent. However, if you don’t pay attention to it for a while, you can no longer keep it in your control. Dental health is also in your hands. If you take proper care, you will have healthy, sparkling teeth. And if you start ignoring your teeth and gums and let bad habits take over, you are in trouble.

One of the worst dental health problems are the gum disease twins – gingivitis and periodontitis. These ruin not only your smile but also your overall health. Are you doing enough to keep them at bay or are you spreading a red carpet for them without realizing it? Find out if you are doing enough to prevent them.

  • You have cut down smoking. I would recommend quitting the habit for good. I know it is difficult. Start with reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke everyday.

  • Your sugar level is in control. Diabetics are extremely prone to the gum diseases. Keeping a check on the blood sugar level will help you keep the diseases at bay.
  • You take extra care as a woman. The hormonal changes women undergo during puberty, pregnancy, menopause etc make them susceptible to the gum diseases. It is important that they pay extra attention to oral care during such phases.
  • You have curbed your sweet cravings. Try to eat sweets only during your meals and not between them.
  • You visit your dentist every six months. In fact, visit him/her sooner if you notice the slightest hint of a gum disease.

Happy smiling!
