Are Your Teeth Sensitive?
Teeth sensitivity simply refers to the discomfort one experiences when his/her teeth are exposed to very hot and cold food or to sweets. Sometimes, people with sensitive teeth may feel a certain discomfort even on touching their teeth.
There are two types of sensitivity. The first one is called dentinal sensitivity and the other one is called pulpal sensitivity. While dentinal sensitivity affects the dentine of the teeth, the pulpal one affects the dental pulp.
Dentinal sensitivity is present in all teeth. Pulpal sensitivity affects individual teeth. The two conditions are treated differently.
If you have sensitive teeth, you have to take a lot of care, may be a little more than the ones who have not-so-sensitive teeth. Let’s look at what you should do.
- Make sure you follow a proper dental care routine everyday. And this is important for everyone who has teeth!
- You should be gentle to your teeth and gums while brushing.
- It is important that you don’t delay any treatment of the root.
- Refrain from clenching or grinding your teeth.
- Never use your teeth as an instrument for opening bottles.
You can end up making your teeth more sensitive if you don’t take care of them properly.
You will get a lot of over-the-counter products for sensitive teeth including special toothpastes and mouthwashes. However, don’t just buy anything you come across. Ask your dentist if you should use any of these products. Your dentist will be able to give you information on products and tips for taking care of sensitive teeth.
Happy smiling!
