Avoiding Tooth Erosion
Do you know our teeth erode? Yes, just like soil. No, they don’t get washed away but the enamel of the teeth goes through wear and tear over time. You have to watch out for signs that suggest that your teeth are being eroded. Answer the following questions and you will know if they are.
- Have your teeth become sensitive? Have your already sensitive teeth become more sensitive?
- Have your teeth become discolored?
- Can you see cracks and dents in your teeth?
- Do your teeth appear transparent at some places?
- Have your teeth become round at the edges?
If your answer to these questions is in the affirmative, you should see your dentist right away.
Do you know what cause your teeth to erode? It is the absence of saliva. If your mouth is dry, the acids generated by the food you et can erode your teeth. It is the saliva that protects our teeth by making sure the minerals are not washed away by acids.
What can you do to prevent tooth erosion? Here are some tips:
- Cut down the intake of acidic food.
- Rinse your mouth after consuming acidic food. If you do not know what is acidic, rinse after consuming anything.
- Avoid fizzy, carbonated beverages as much as possible.
- Avoid brushing your teeth immediately after you consume something. Wait at least an hour before you pick up that toothbrush.
- Avoid snacking between meals.
- Use a straw when drinking a juice or carbonated beverage.
- Follow a proper dental care routine.
Take care.
