Here are a few things to consider when dealing with insurance companies and cosmetic dentistry:

What can be difficult is finding ‘like’ insurance plan. Some plans appear to be quite cheap, until you realize that the cover provided is only through associated dentists – and your dentist isn’t one of them. In fact, I would first check with my dentist to see if they are a preferred professional through a dental insurance plan – if they are, compare their policies first.

Your dental needs will fall into one of three categories – preventative, restorative, and advanced. Each is a build on the previous, so a restorative plan will include preventative measures with greater cover. When checking insurance plans, note how much they will pay out on treatments, annual limits, and any co-payment required by you. A dental insurance plan isn’t more affordable if you have greater out of pocket expenses. However, if you only ever visit a dentist for check-ups and cleaning, out of pocket expenses with a lower premium may be more affordable.

The key to finding affordable dental insurance is comparison. Compare every plan, and every component of each plan, not just costs. You will find an affordable dental insurance plan, more so if they are attached to groups of dentists, and you are prepared to pay out-of-pocket contributions each time you seek treatment. Considering the costs of some treatment, a 60%-70% cover is better than no cover at all, especially if that treatment is urgent, or necessary to reduce pain and discomfort.

If you are young and healthy, then a dental health insurance scheme that concentrates solely on preventative treatments will be your cheapest option. If you do need any restorative treatments, then you will find that your scheme only pays a small part of those costs – but that’s the gamble you are taking.

For those who are a little older, and whose teeth are not in great order, then a dental health insurance that pays out a higher percentage of restorative costs is your best option. These schemes are more expensive, but over time will pay for themselves, especially if you need extensive restorative work.

Affordable dental health insurance is only affordable if it provides the right level of cover for your dental health needs. While assessing those needs can be difficult, you should speak to your dentist first to determine the state of your teeth. On the plus side, once you have had your restorative work done, you can always consider dropping back to a dental health insurance scheme that favors preventative treatments. If you maintain your teeth, and attend your dentist regularly, you may not need further restorative work, and preventative treatment plans are less expensive.

More importantly, you can take out affordable dental insurance that will cover most of the costs involved with preventative dental treatments. You will find that some restorative services such as dental fillings are also well covered by that insurance policy. More expensive cosmetic dental procedures don’t always have the same level of cover. But then, claiming back 50% of the cost of dental crown is still a considerable sum.

If you’re going to go to the expense of cosmetically treating your face and hair, it makes sense to complete the job by having your teeth seen to as well. While most health insurance policies give no or very little cover for plastic surgery, basic dental insurance will cover you for ongoing preventative treatment for your teeth – and if you have been looking after your teeth, that’s possibly all the cover your going to need.

Your hair’s looking great; your skin is looking perfect; can you say the same about your teeth? If not, see your dentist to complete the overall look.

As a general rule, dental insurance pays out more for preventative treatments than it does for restorative treatments. Dental insurance will pay out even less when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. You need to assess the term ‘affordable’ in conjunction with your current dental health. If you require a lot of restorative work, then cheaper dental insurance may be a false savings.

If you and your family have good teeth, then dental insurance that provides a high level of coverage for preventative treatments is more suitable. If you do take this option, you need to ensure that each family member fully utilizes there allowable claims each year. In most cases, this is two dental visits each year for a check up and cleaning.

When taking out an affordable dental insurance coverage that leans towards preventative treatments, you do need to be aware that any treatments associated with accidents will have lower coverage. This includes problems such as broken or chipped teeth, teeth being knocked out in an accident, and fillings or older restorations that have fallen out.

Preventative dental insurance will, however, often include good rebates for items such as sporting mouth guards that are made specifically for an individual. These can be expensive, but from a dental insurer’s perspective, are less costly than broken teeth repairs.

You can find affordable dental insurance if you assess your dental needs properly and focus on coverage for those areas. Why pay for coverage you don’t yet need?

Insurance coverage is all about managing costs, even for the insurance company. They know that preventative treatment helps to reduce dental problems later in life, and that those treatments are expensive treatments. It’s a simple business decision – pay a little more now to avoid paying a large amount later. There are a lot of different dental insurance products on the market now – tailoring an insurance cover to suit your needs is one way of reducing the overall cost of your coverage.

One of the reasons for dental bonding taking time is because it is layer-based. Your dentist will apply the bonding one layer at a time, each time hardening the bond before applying the next layer. This enables your dentist to sculpt the bonding material to provide a customized finish that is virtually impossible to pick up by a casual observer.

The process starts with the dentist using an etching liquid to etch some of the enamel from the tooth. This provides a rough surface for the bonding agent to adhere to. Dental bonds are composite materials that form a hard finish. The procedure can be used for chipped or broken teeth or for some of the simpler fillings and can be used on front or back teeth.

One of the benefits of tooth bonding is that it has a longer life expectancy compared to traditional fillings. Dental bonding is generally a little less expensive when compared to crowns – more importantly, if the dental bonding is considered a structural need, then it tends to have a higher insurance payout when compared to crowns. If the procedure is considered more cosmetic, then the payout will often be far less.

While dental bonding is not as popular as it once was, it is still one of the best procedures for repairing minor chips or breaks in teeth.
