Many Americans decide not to visit the dentist due to lack of dental insurance but there are affordable options in dental care.

Today, many Americans scramble to find dental insurance. If they don’t have it, most families will forgo dental visits. However, there are dental insurance available for all incomes. Even with options for dental care, how do you pick the best one for your family.

Here Are Some Things To Keep In Mind:

The Procedures Involved:
Most insurance policies and discount programs have savings for preventative care. On the other hand, savings for serious procedures such as root canals, crowns, and dentures will vary more substantially between plans. Some dental treatments are not covered at all.

Consider what you need the most. Do you need discounts for checkups, denture adjustments, implants or something else? Make sure the program you choose offers a low price for the treatment or procedure you need.

How Soon Do You Need to See a Dentist?
If you need crowns, dentures, and braces, there may be a waiting period – some can be up to 12 months. But, you will find discount plans that have no waiting period.

However, if you are in an emergency and require help with your dental problem right away, the waiting period for certain procedures or for your plan to activate can really determine which one you will choose. Call the insurance company and get the specifics on this.

Choosing Your Dentist
You want to find a good family dentist but you need to take several factors into account. Overall, discount plans are an affordable alternative to insurance that can greatly reduce your out-of-pocket expenses at the dental office. Just like anything you spend money on, make sure you do your homework before enrolling in a program.

You can always ask a dentist of your choice for suggestions. If you are looking for a family dentist, contact us at Wayzata Dental & SmileSpa. We are a Plymouth family dentistry here to help you. Give us a call or contact us online.

CEREC is a state-of-the-art technology resulting in a fast and convenient way of creating dental crowns.

You may not hear this often but it is used quite often in dental offices. CEREC. CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction. It’s 3D chair side design and milling technology that allows dentists to create all-ceramic crowns pretty quickly.

With CEREC, you don’t have to wait for the crown to arrive from a lab, and you don’t have to visit our office for a second appointment. It’s fast and convenient. CEREC also eliminates the need for messy impressions and temporary crowns. This state-of-the-art technology is backed by decades of research and delivers results that are highly esthetic, durable, and long-lasting. Wayzata Dental & SmileSpa, a Minnetonka cosmetic dentistry, is pleased to offer this comfort- and convenience-enhancing technology to patients.
But what are dental crowns?

Dental crowns are most often made of gold or porcelain, although they can also be made of stainless steel. Stainless steel crowns are typically used for primary teeth in children, because they’re temporary and not designed for long-term wear.

Yes, gold crowns are still worn and are biocompatible – they will not fracture. They’re generally reserved for teeth that don’t show when you smile. Porcelain crowns are often built on a metal base to provide additional strength and support for back teeth. All-porcelain crowns, which contain no metal, provide an excellent solution to restore front teeth and maintain a natural-looking smile.

Visit us at Wayzata Dental. Our dentist, Dr. Jason McDowell, and staff are committed to helping you find best and most natural option for your teeth. We will direct you in the right direction!

Cosmetic dentistry isn't usually covered by dental insurance but there are ways to get discounts.

At one point, cosmetic dentistry was something only the wealthy, the affluent or perhaps professional models considered. But today, these procedures have become popular for everyone because the smile is becoming just as an important physical feature as the hair and body. While most dental insurance companies state that dental cosmetic procedures are not needed and will usually refuse coverage outright, there are ways to lower your cosmetic dental bill.

Typical Insurance Coverage

Traditional dentistry focuses on preventing disease and maintaining oral health and hygiene, cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your teeth and mouth. Traditional dentistry is considered to be a necessity – relieving pain and preventing problems such as decay. A patient can decide if he or she wants to pursue cosmetic treatments.

Here are a few things to consider when dealing with insurance companies and cosmetic dentistry:

•	Most insurance does not cover the following procedures:
•	Bleaching or tooth whitening
•	Correcting a space between the teeth
•	Initial placement of porcelain veneers

While insurance tooth whitening clauses are almost definitely immovable, in that it is extremely difficult to make whitening seem necessary for your health, some discount plans might be able to help you save on the procedure. Tooth bonding, for purposes other than improving tooth appearance, can be covered under some circumstances, especially if the procedure is intended to repair such as a chip. Cosmetic repairs after an injury are almost always covered.

You might get a discount on your veneers if you are replacing or repairing them. Most contracts include a section on repairs.

You should talk with your family dentist. Wayzata Dental and SmileSpa is a Plymouth dentistry specializing in cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening. Give is a call or visit us online to see all the different ways we can help you achieve a healthy and radient smile.

Affordable dental insurance is available for families -- it just takes some research.

Today, there are many families who forgo dental care because they do not have dental insurance. Dental insurance can be a costly thing and finding good quality affordable dental insurance can be quite a task for most families. But there are many places that offer dental insurance at a discount.

Families need to make sure to compare the cost of the plan with the coverage to assure that you are getting the best value for your money, you have adequate dental insurance.

Here are a few things to think about when researching for dental insurance:

•	Check with your employer to see if they offer a dental insurance plan. In most cases this can be one of your best options.
•	A good rule of thumb is to get several insurance quotes from online insurance companies before you make your final decision. You want a good price but also a good policy that will give you enough coverage.
•	Before searching for coverage, it is important to decide what type of coverage you need. You may only need to go to the dentist a couple times a year and then you may want to find a low-cost maintenance plan.
•	If you are planning for a lot of work on your teeth or see it coming in the near future, you may need an alternative dental plan that provides a discount on work needed

Like health insurance, it is important to have dental insurance so you can take care of your teeth without too much worry on your coverage. With a little research and maybe some guidance from your family dentist, you can make dental health a top priority without hurting your pocket too much.

Contact Wayzata Dental and SmileSpa. We make you — our patients — a priority and can answer questions about your dental needs.

The term ‘ affordable’ means different things to different people. If you earn a million dollars a year, then paying twenty thousand for dental insurance is just spare change. If you only earn twenty thousand each year, then five hundred dollars a year may seem expensive. When looking for affordable dental insurance, you need to determine your needs, and to then work the Internet to find comparable insurance plan.

What can be difficult is finding ‘like’ insurance plan. Some plans appear to be quite cheap, until you realize that the cover provided is only through associated dentists – and your dentist isn’t one of them. In fact, I would first check with my dentist to see if they are a preferred professional through a dental insurance plan – if they are, compare their policies first.

Your dental needs will fall into one of three categories – preventative, restorative, and advanced. Each is a build on the previous, so a restorative plan will include preventative measures with greater cover. When checking insurance plans, note how much they will pay out on treatments, annual limits, and any co-payment required by you. A dental insurance plan isn’t more affordable if you have greater out of pocket expenses. However, if you only ever visit a dentist for check-ups and cleaning, out of pocket expenses with a lower premium may be more affordable.

The key to finding affordable dental insurance is comparison. Compare every plan, and every component of each plan, not just costs. You will find an affordable dental insurance plan, more so if they are attached to groups of dentists, and you are prepared to pay out-of-pocket contributions each time you seek treatment. Considering the costs of some treatment, a 60%-70% cover is better than no cover at all, especially if that treatment is urgent, or necessary to reduce pain and discomfort.

We all want to save money and there’s no doubt that dental health insurance can help to save money. However, when trying to find affordable dental health insurance, you first need to identify your current and future needs. It is important to look towards your future needs as most policies have annual limits, and waiting times before you can claim for some treatments.

If you are young and healthy, then a dental health insurance scheme that concentrates solely on preventative treatments will be your cheapest option. If you do need any restorative treatments, then you will find that your scheme only pays a small part of those costs – but that’s the gamble you are taking.

For those who are a little older, and whose teeth are not in great order, then a dental health insurance that pays out a higher percentage of restorative costs is your best option. These schemes are more expensive, but over time will pay for themselves, especially if you need extensive restorative work.

Affordable dental health insurance is only affordable if it provides the right level of cover for your dental health needs. While assessing those needs can be difficult, you should speak to your dentist first to determine the state of your teeth. On the plus side, once you have had your restorative work done, you can always consider dropping back to a dental health insurance scheme that favors preventative treatments. If you maintain your teeth, and attend your dentist regularly, you may not need further restorative work, and preventative treatment plans are less expensive.

We live in an era where people (men and women) think nothing of spending thousands of dollars each year on skin creams and lotions, or undergoing treatments such as micro dermal abrasion, Botox, and cosmetic surgery. In many cases, those same people balk at spending a few hundred dollars each year on a dental checkup and clean and polish of their teeth. The problem is, if you only work on the outside of your face, your smile could negate all of the work of a beauty therapist or cosmetic surgeon.

More importantly, you can take out affordable dental insurance that will cover most of the costs involved with preventative dental treatments. You will find that some restorative services such as dental fillings are also well covered by that insurance policy. More expensive cosmetic dental procedures don’t always have the same level of cover. But then, claiming back 50% of the cost of dental crown is still a considerable sum.

If you’re going to go to the expense of cosmetically treating your face and hair, it makes sense to complete the job by having your teeth seen to as well. While most health insurance policies give no or very little cover for plastic surgery, basic dental insurance will cover you for ongoing preventative treatment for your teeth – and if you have been looking after your teeth, that’s possibly all the cover your going to need.

Your hair’s looking great; your skin is looking perfect; can you say the same about your teeth? If not, see your dentist to complete the overall look.

Dental insurance is one of those areas that people need to give a lot of thought to. The term ‘affordable’ in the phrase affordable dental insurance often means you need to sacrifice something to keep the price ‘affordable’. At the same time, you want the broadest coverage possible, especially if you are taking out family dental insurance.

As a general rule, dental insurance pays out more for preventative treatments than it does for restorative treatments. Dental insurance will pay out even less when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. You need to assess the term ‘affordable’ in conjunction with your current dental health. If you require a lot of restorative work, then cheaper dental insurance may be a false savings.

If you and your family have good teeth, then dental insurance that provides a high level of coverage for preventative treatments is more suitable. If you do take this option, you need to ensure that each family member fully utilizes there allowable claims each year. In most cases, this is two dental visits each year for a check up and cleaning.

When taking out an affordable dental insurance coverage that leans towards preventative treatments, you do need to be aware that any treatments associated with accidents will have lower coverage. This includes problems such as broken or chipped teeth, teeth being knocked out in an accident, and fillings or older restorations that have fallen out.

Preventative dental insurance will, however, often include good rebates for items such as sporting mouth guards that are made specifically for an individual. These can be expensive, but from a dental insurer’s perspective, are less costly than broken teeth repairs.

You can find affordable dental insurance if you assess your dental needs properly and focus on coverage for those areas. Why pay for coverage you don’t yet need?

Finding affordable dental insurance is not getting harder, it’s actually getting easier. Competition is one of the keys, not just in price, but in what you can get for your dollars. In most cases, preventative dental treatments get a huge boost while cosmetic dental procedures have very small returns unless you want to pay higher premiums to begin with.

Insurance coverage is all about managing costs, even for the insurance company. They know that preventative treatment helps to reduce dental problems later in life, and that those treatments are expensive treatments. It’s a simple business decision – pay a little more now to avoid paying a large amount later. This is a philosophy you can follow and that is why it’s a good idea to talk to your dentist before securing affordable dental insurance.

Your dentist will be able to advise you on the general state of your teeth. Factors such as how well they are wearing and whether they are showing any warning signs of more expensive future problems (for example, wisdom teeth issues) will affect the level of dental insurance you can obtain.

There is one more important factor to consider. Your dentist may be a preferred supplier of dental procedures by some dental insurers. This means that if you continue to see this dentist, you will receive discounted fees from them – all paid by your insurer. There are a lot of different dental insurance products on the market now – tailoring an insurance cover to suit your needs is one way of reducing the overall cost of your coverage.

Dental bonding is not as popular as it once was. If you chip a tooth, you can use a procedure such as a crown or veneer to rectify the problem. Bonding is a slower process that takes between one and two hours to complete – however, it is completed in one visit.

One of the reasons for dental bonding taking time is because it is layer-based. Your dentist will apply the bonding one layer at a time, each time hardening the bond before applying the next layer. This enables your dentist to sculpt the bonding material to provide a customized finish that is virtually impossible to pick up by a casual observer.

The process starts with the dentist using an etching liquid to etch some of the enamel from the tooth. This provides a rough surface for the bonding agent to adhere to. Dental bonds are composite materials that form a hard finish. The procedure can be used for chipped or broken teeth or for some of the simpler fillings and can be used on front or back teeth.

One of the benefits of tooth bonding is that it has a longer life expectancy compared to traditional fillings. Dental bonding is generally a little less expensive when compared to crowns – more importantly, if the dental bonding is considered a structural need, then it tends to have a higher insurance payout when compared to crowns. If the procedure is considered more cosmetic, then the payout will often be far less.

While dental bonding is not as popular as it once was, it is still one of the best procedures for repairing minor chips or breaks in teeth.
