What is CEREC?
An acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, CEREC refers to refers to the restoration of teeth with the help of technology.
With the help of three-dimensional imaging and the technology of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing, popularly knows as CAD/CAM, a ceramic crown or veneer is created which is then fixed into the patient’s mouth.
At first, the patient’s tooth is coated with a powder-like material and then a three-dimensional image is taken. With the help of the appropriate software, a design of the perfect restoration (crown, veneer, inlay, or onlay) is created. This design is passed down to machines that create the restoration in a matter of minutes.
How long does the procedure last?
The CEREC process can be employed to the teeth in a single session.
What should I do immediately after the procedure?
Ask your dentist for tips to handle your newly restored teeth. You may feel a little sensitivity in your teeth. Avoid eating very hot, cold, or sour food on the day after the procedure.
