Dental Care Affects Matters of the Hearts, Literally
A cousin of mine says that I have the knack of relating everything to dental health. I think the skill is not in me. It is dental health that seems to affect almost everything. Did you know the matters of the heart have a connection with dental care? And I am not referring to sweet-smile-wins-hearts stuff. I am talking about cardiac conditions. People with heart conditions need to be extra cautious about their dental health.
If you have a heart condition, it is important that you keep your cardiologist informed about any dental procedure recommended by your dentist. You should make sure it is safe before you go for it. Take a family member or friend along when you visit the dentist for a dental procedure. And make sure the dental clinic you visit is equipped to cope with emergency situations.
Your dentist should also be aware of your condition for dental procedures to go right. Make sure your dentist knows if you ever had had a stroke. Also inform him/her if you have other conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Let him know if you have dry mouth. Keep him/her informed of all the drugs you are taking and any heart treatments you have undergone.
If you have had a heart attack in the last six months, it is advisable that you don’t go for a dental treatment. If a dental treatment is absolutely necessary, make sure your cardiologist has approved it and your dentist is well equipped and informed.
It is important that you never skip any medicine prescribed to you. You may be at a higher risk if you skip medicines. Follow a proper dental care routine at all times.
