Dental care for the elderly
Dental care is equally important in all phases of life. Earlier in this blog, we have discussed the subject of dental care in children several times. Today, we will talk about dental care for the elderly.
Elderly people are faced with certain difficulties that make it difficult for them to follow a proper dental care routine. The two most common problems faced by them are:
- Inability to hold and use the toothbrush properly
- Excessive dryness in the mouth because of medication or reduced production of saliva
In order to help an elderly person takes proper care of his/her teeth, family members should pay a little attention. Let us look at a few dental care tips that the elderly should follow.
- Use an electric or battery-operated toothbrush to ease brushing.
- Rinse the mouth after consuming anything.
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Include some fiber in the diet.
- If wearing dentures, clean the dentures after every meal.
- Keep all the appointments with your dentist.
Happy smiling!
