Diabetes affects dental health adversely. Diabetes accounts for conditions like inflammation of the gums and dryness in the mouth. Diabetic people are at high risk of developing cavities, gingivitis, and periodontitis.

Let’s look at what dental precautions you should take and dental care tips you should follow if you have diabetes.

  • Keep your blood sugar level under control.

  • Keep away from smoking.
  • Inform your dentist of all the medication you are taking.
  • Inform your dentist of any other health problems you may have.
  • Follow a proper dental care routine regularly.
  • Inform your dentist of your blood sugar level every time you visit him/her.
  • If you have to undergo a necessary dental treatment, get your dentist to consult your doctor.
  • Follow all post-treatment instructions religiously.
  • Do not ignore any symptom of gum diseases, however insignificant it may appear.
  • Take care of your health and always follow your doctor’s advice.

Happy smiling!
