Dental Hygiene is Important for a Scintillating Smile

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 5:34 am under Hygiene

Can you make friends with a person who has brown stains on his/her teeth? Yeah, I know, friendships are not based on looks and blah blah. But really, can you laugh with a person who flashes his/her dirty (literally!) teeth at you every time he/she opens the mouth? OK, if you ask me, I will really have trouble making friends with such a person. Before you think I am too shallow, let me tell you I don’t look at the brand of people’s clothes and shoes when I make friends with them. But hygiene is something I am very particular about. Poor hygiene reflects an aspect of an individual’s personality I don’t like, and I am sure even you don’t.

While I don’t want to make friends with the one with brown teeth, I wouldn’t want to be that person. This post is dedicated to all people who care about dental hygiene. Now, what does it mean? It simply refers to the practice of keep teeth and gums clean.

Dental hygiene not only wards of problems like plaque and tartar, but also makes our smile healthy and shiny. Here’s what you have to do to practice dental hygiene:

  • Brush two times a day, preferably after meals.

  • Brush before going to bed.
  • Floss your teeth everyday.

And now some more tips on taking care of your teeth:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Water helps cleanse your mouth and keeps your mouth salivated.

  • Avoid eating anything sweet between meals.
  • Avoid food and beverages that can stain your teeth.
  • Cut down on smoking.
  • Go for a fruit instead of its liquid juice.
  • Do no miss your appointments with the dentist.

Happy smiling!
