What does dental hygiene mean to you? Spotless teeth? Odorless breath? Actually dental hygiene is much more than that. It implies that you don’t have toothache, dental ailments, and gum diseases. Thus, dental hygiene effects your dental health directly. But that’s not all. Practicing good oral hygiene will also help your general health. Dental problems can lead to tooth decay which may further lead to tooth loss. Now, loss of a few teeth can interfere with the way you eat food. You will not be able to chew and swallow properly, leading to indigestion and other problems in the body. In fact, the problem of chewing food can bar nutrients from reaching your body properly, thereby causing deficiencies and other ailments.
If you have germs inside your mouth, they won’t keep themselves to the premises of the mouth. There are chances they will stray inside your body and infect the blood vessels reaching the heart, thus causing heart diseases.
What does oral hygiene mean? It refers to the practice of keeping the mouth healthy by cleaning the teeth and mouth regularly. Wondering how you should go about it? Start with brushing at least twice a day. Floss everyday, immediately after you have brushed. Clean your tongue once everyday. In addition, drink plenty of water throughout the day. Eat sugary food only during meals. Rinse your mouth after consuming anything.
Dental hygiene is really not too difficult to practice. You just need to be willing to make an effort.
