Dental Problems Can Affect Your General Health
If your smile is not its sparkling best, you may be affecting the rest of the body as well. Poor dental health can affect your general health to a great extent. Let’s understand why.
Poor dental care causes plaque and tartar on your teeth which in turn cause cavities. Poor oral care leads to gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis.
Cavities and other dental problems cause teeth decay and teeth loss eventually. It is difficult to chew and swallow your food properly after the loss of a few teeth. The inability to chew food properly leads to indigestion, causing problems in your body.
The inability to chew food properly causes other health issues as well. The nutrients do not reach the body properly if the food is not chewed properly.
Poor dental care may cause problems in speech, thus adversely affecting your confidence.
The germs that breed inside the mouth because of poor oral hygiene infect the blood vessels reaching the heart, thus causing heart diseases.
Proper dental care, therefore, is not only essential to maintain a radiant smile but also to enjoy overall good health. So, what do you need to do? As we always say, get back to the basics. Brush and floss regularly and properly. Clean your tongue on a daily basis. Keep your mouth hydrated and clean at all times. Eat balanced meals. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. And yes, visit your dentist every six months.
Your dentist will help you take proper care of your dental health.
Happy smiling!
