Do You Have Sensitive Teeth?

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 6:58 pm under Know your teeth

Imagine putting a spoonful of your favorite ice-cream in your mouth and screaming in pain. If you have sensitive teeth, you know what I am talking about. What exactly is teeth sensitivity? It refers to the uneasiness one experiences when the teeth are exposed to very hot and cold food or to sweets. Sometimes, people with sensitive teeth may feel a certain discomfort even on touching their teeth.

Like several other things, teeth sensitivity also comes in types. One type is called dentinal sensitivity and the other one is called pulpal sensitivity. Now, dentinal sensitivity affects the dentine of the teeth while the pulpal one affects the dental pulp. The former type is present in all teeth while the latter affects individual teeth.

The treatments of the two types are done differently.

Now, taking care of sensitive teeth is very important. Well, taking care of ‘insensitive’ teeth is equally important, but today we’ll share some simple tips to take care of sensitive teeth.

  • Follow a proper dental care routine. This is for everyone who has teeth!
  • Be gentle to your teeth and gums while brushing.
  • Don’t delay any treatment of the root.
  • Don’t clench or grind your teeth.
  • Do not use your teeth as an instrument for opening bottle and the like.

If you or someone in your family has sensitive teeth, visit the dental clinic and inform the dentist about it. Your dentist will provide you more information products for and tips on taking care of sensitive teeth.

Happy smiling!
