Do You Need Veneers?

There are certain dental treatments you know even if you have never undergone them. Take for example, RCT. It scares you even if you have never had to experience it. Then there is the term, veneers. You know they are some sort of a restorative treatment but you don’t know what they do. You may want to find out more about them if you have damaged teeth.

Veneers are thin layers of material such as porcelain that is used to cover damaged teeth to protect them against further damage. With veneers, you can improve the appearance of your teeth drastically.

Your dentist will introduce you to two types of veneers: prep veneers and prepless veneers. Prep veneers are the ones that require a certain amount of preparation before they can be fit onto your teeth. An example of prep veneers is the porcelain ones. As you would have guessed, prepless veneers don’t require preparation before the actual fitting. Durathin and Lumineers are examples of prepless veneers.

If you have damaged teeth, you don’t have to live with it. Visit your dentist and ask if veneers can improve the look of your teeth, and hence your smile.

Here’s how veneers are put on your teeth. A mould is created with a clay-like material on your teeth. This mould is then used to make the perfect fitting veneer. Your dentist may file the surface of your teeth to make space for the veneer. Prepless veneers do not require any filing. It may take a couple of weeks to make the right veneer for you. You should have perfect looking teeth on your second visit to the dentist.

You will be happy to learn that veneers can last for several years. However, you have to take proper care of your newly-acquired smile.

Happy smiling!
