Don’t Visit Your Dentist Only for Teeth Whitening
Some of my friends visit the dentist only for a teeth whitening procedure. The world is stuck with the perception that the fairer the teeth, the healthier or the more beautiful they are. While it’s true that clean teeth reflect good dental health, white teeth don’t necessarily mean clean or healthy teeth. The reasoning is simple. The teeth that have been treated with a whitening procedure look white and bright but they may till have an underlying dental or gum problem, ruining their health. Also, there is another thing that most people are not aware of. The perfect whiteness of the teeth is dependent on the color of your skin. If your skin is dark, you will have whiter teeth and it is fair, you will have not-so-white teeth. This does not mean that the fair-skinned people live with yellow stains on their teeth, calling the color natural.
What we need to understand is that the color of the teeth should not be our focus. Our focus should be healthy teeth and the right color will follow. We have to follow a good dental care regimen everyday without which we can’t expect to flash a brilliant smile. No dentist can do what you can. You take care of your teeth and gums on a daily basis and get them examined by the dentist once every six months. That should be enough. However, if you notice any sign of dental trouble, you should visit your dentist right away.
Whitening is not the only way your dentist can improve the look of your smile. He/she can rectify teeth abnormalities and treat chipped, decayed, infected, or broken teeth. Regular visits to your dentist will ensure that your teeth look perfect all the time.
Happy smiling!
