Eat Right for Healthy Teeth
Cleaning your teeth well and eating the right kind of food is how you can keep your smile looking bright and healthy all the time. Unfortunately, we tend to look at quick-fixes more. It is important to understand that the results of these quick-fixes are temporary; they vanish real quick! So, if you want a sparkling smile, take care of your teeth. In several of the posts on this blog, I have shared dental care tips. Today, I will talk about the food we should eat for healthy teeth.
Let’s start with calcium. Calcium is important to keep our teeth string. You need to consume calcium-rich food everyday. So, make milk, yogurt, or cheese a part of your daily diet. Green vegetables like spinach also have a lot of calcium. You can eat soy products too. Salmon is a good source of calcium and so are sardines.
Calcium is absorbed by the body only if the body gets enough vitamin D. This vitamin, therefore, becomes extremely important for good dental health. Vitamin D essentially comes from spending a couple of minutes in the sun everyday. Sources of the vitamin in food are egg yolk, fish, liver, milk, and soy drinks.
Vitamin C is another important nutrient for healthy teeth. It helps prevent gum diseases. Guavas, mangoes, pineapples, and lemons are a rich sources of vitamin C. You can also eat vegetable like tomatoes, cauliflower, and papaya.
It is also important that you make fiber a part of your meals. Fiber not only helps clean your mouth but also your entire digestive system. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. And ask your dentist if you need to add anything specific to your diet.
Happy smiling!
