Eating habits for healthy teeth
Eating right forms an important part of maintaining good dental health. Going for that bar of chocolate or vanilla wafers between meals may not be a good idea if you want to sport a good, healthy smile. Here are some pointers to eating and drinking right for good dental health.
- Consume milk and milk products on a daily basis.
- Eat green and leafy vegetables everyday.
- Eat a fruit or two everyday.
- Bite into a fruit instead of gulping down its juice. If you have to drink juice, use a straw.
- Rinse your mouth thoroughly after consuming anything.
- Eat a cube of cheese to end a meal. This will negate the effects of acids in the meal you just had.
- Avoid drinking carbonated drinks or other sweet beverages.
- Avoid snacking on sweets and sugary food between meals.
- Bite into an apple or a carrot if you want to have a quick snack. Apples and carrots work as cleansers for the teeth.
- Buy cough syrups that are sugar-free.
Some types of foods are extremely beneficial for your teeth. In fruits, go for pineapple, orange, pears, watermelon, and muskmelon. While picking vegetables, go for spinach, carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, green beans, and cucumbers. Salmon and sardines are good for your teeth and so is chicken. However, these should be consumed together with vegetables and other food.
Boiled eggs, almonds, sesame, whole wheat bread, tofu, sunflower seeds, and plain popcorn are teeth-friendly snacks. In dairy products you can go for plain yogurt, low-fat cheese, buttermilk, and cottage cheese.
Taking care of your smile is a lot about eating right.
Happy smiling!
