Extra dental care during pregnancy
Almost every instruction in the world changes for a pregnant woman. And there are some absolutely new ones. The source of these instructions is not necessarily the doctors, but all the acquaintances of the expecting mother. Amidst all the advice, if you are asked to take additional care of your dental health, would you really mind? Women are more susceptible to dental problems during pregnancy. Therefore, a little extra care is required. If you ask any dental care expert, dental care during pregnancy is not very different from regular dental care. Here’s what you need to do when you are pregnant.
- Inform your dentist that you are pregnant. Your dentist will not recommend any harmful procedures during this period.
- Inform your dentist of all the medicines you are taking. Some medications may interfere with certain dental procedures or trigger some dental problems.
- Keep your gynecologist informed of any dental procedure you are about to undertake.
- Avoid undergoing dental x-rays during pregnancy.
- Avoid drinking fizzy drinks. These drinks are responsible for eroding the teeth enamel.
- Eat whole fruits instead of fruit juices. Sweet juices can erode the enamel of the teeth in the long run.
- Do not miss a single appointment with your dentist.
Not all dental procedures are harmful during pregnancy. However, you should keep your doctor in the loop before going for a dental treatment. Your dentist may not be aware of any complications in your pregnancy. Seeking your doctor’s advice for a dental treatment can ward of avoidable complications.
The hormonal changes during pregnancy make women prone to gum diseases. Therefore, expecting mothers need to follow a dental care routine stringently.
Happy smiling!
