Give dental care an early start
It’s not only adults who are at a risk of harming their teeth; children, even infants, are prone to teeth damage if proper attention is not paid to their dental health. In today’s post, we will discuss some dos and don’ts of dental care in children.
- Start practicing oral care even before your infant develops her first tooth; wipe her gums and the insides of her mouth every time after you feed her.
- Start cleansing the baby’s teeth with a soft brush when she gets her first tooth. Several brands of baby toothbrushes are available in the market.
- Keep your children away from fruit juices. Instead, give them fruits. If your child is too young, mash a fruit for her. Fruit juices are acidic in nature, thereby harming the teeth enamel.
- Make your children savor sweets only during meals. The rest of the meal balances the effects of the sugar on the teeth.
- Do not make your child sleep with a bottle of milk. When asleep, the child will not be able to process the milk, keeping most of it in the mouth, thereby harming the teeth. This is commonly referred to as baby bottle decay. Replacing milk with water is a better idea and therefore highly recommended.
- Check with your dentist and pediatrician before buying fluoride toothpaste or any other special dental care product for your child.
Consult your dentist to learn more about dental care in infants. It is important to understand that early care ensures a good foundation for permanent teeth.
