Is there anything good about smoking? I know smokers will talk bout the supposed feeling of ‘nirvana’ they get when they inhale and exhale the smoke. Well, while we raise our hands in opposition, let’s once again highlight the bad effects smoking has on our dental health.

  • Your teeth look ugly. You have to admit that smoking causes your teeth to discolor. This is an immediate effect of smoking and extremely visible.

  • You stink. At least, your breath does. It does not matter whether or not point it out, they aren’t saying good things about you behind your back.
  • You have something on your teeth. Smoking will cause plaque to build on your teeth, making your teeth look worse and cause bacteria to flourish I it.
  • You sound hoarse. Don’t go by people who have suddenly started calling your voice husky. Smoking will cause you to develop a sore throat, making your voice hoarse.
  • You can’t enjoy food any longer. Too much smoking causes you to lose the sense of taste.
  • Your teeth start decaying. Smokers develop cavities n the long rub, which results in teeth decay. This may lead to teeth loss.
  • Your gums swell. Smoking causes your gums to swell, a warning sign of gum diseases.
  • You get gingivitis or periodontitis. Smokers are prone to gum diseases.
  • You get oral cancer. Smokers have an extremely high risk of developing oral cancer.

If you cannot reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke everyday, dental health may be the least of your concerns; you may be affected by bigger and worse health problems. Start with thinking about your smile, and kick the butt.

Happy smiling!
