How to Keep Teeth Decaying Bacteria at Bay

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 12:18 pm under Dental Care

Well, take good care of your teeth and the bacteria will keep away from your teeth. Let me tell you what you need to do:

Brush on time, every time. Brush after all your main meals. Yeah, you have to wait an hour after a meal before you clean them. Brushing is the most important step in keeping the mouth clean. It is our teeth that hold the maximum amount of food particles after we have eaten. Our teeth need thorough cleaning to prevent bacteria from flourishing in the mouth.

Floss once everyday. You should floss immediately after you have brushed thoroughly. While brushing cleans the surface of the teeth, it is flossing that can remove food particles from between the teeth. Floss everyday to make sure that no food particle is left on the teeth to attract bacteria.

Clean your tongue once everyday. An unclean tongue can become safe haven for bacteria. Use a tongue scraper to clean your tongue gently. Make sure you do not scrape your tongue too hard. Scraping it too vigorously can open pores in the tongue, making it a good home for bacteria.

Make it a habit to rinse your mouth after eating or drinking anything. While we brush our teeth after meals, we forget to clean our mouth after a snack. Make it a habit to rinse your mouth after you have consumed anything, be it a wafer or a sip of coffee.

Replace fruit juices with fruits. Sweetened drinks and fruit juices not only erode the enamel of the teeth but also leave a sweet trace in the mouth, attracting bacteria. Eat fruits instead of sipping he juice. Also, avoid drinking sweet beverages, especially carbonated drinks. If you have to drink a juice, use a straw.

Yeah, that’s all it takes to keep our mouth bacteria-free.

Happy smiling!
