Hygiene, in simple terms, means cleanliness. We would not like to make friends with people who care less about hygiene. Oral hygiene plays an important in the bigger scene of overall hygiene. Oral hygiene implies the cleanliness of your mouth and teeth. Do you practice high standards of oral hygiene? You may think you do, but if you don’t meet the following criteria, there is scope for improvement.

  • You don’t have any stains on your teeth.

  • You don’t have plaque.
  • Your teeth appear clean.
  • You do not have bad breath.
  • You don’t suffer from any dental or gum disease.

Oral hygiene is not difficult to maintain. It is, however, a matter of habit. So, start today, and in a few weeks from now, your smile will make people envy you. Here’s how you can maintain good oral hygiene.

  • Brush at least twice a day, preferably after meals.

  • Brush before going to bed.
  • Floss once a day, immediately after you have brushed your teeth.
  • Use a tongue-scraper to clean the tongue everyday.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Rinse the mouth thoroughly after eating or drinking anything.

Apart from practicing good hygiene, start paying attention to other habits that may harm your dental health. Cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke everyday. Reduce your intake of coffee and tea. Eat balanced meals. Consume dairy products and fruits on a daily basis.

Good dental health gives a boost to your personality. What you need to do is spend a few minutes looking after your teeth. Is it asking for too much?
