Ill-effects of smoking on the teeth

The statutory warning of smoking being injurious to health does not deter smokers from quitting the habit. Smoking does more than spoil the insides of our bodies. Smoking spoils our personalities, beginning with deteriorating the smile. This post discusses the effects of smoking on our teeth.

  • Bad breath: Bad breath is one of the worst dental problems as it tends to make people make opinions about you. Smoking and consumption of any kind of tobacco bring along bad odor.

  • Yellow teeth: If you smoke, you cannot deny that your teeth have discolored. This is an immediate effect of smoking.
  • Plaque build: Smoking results in plaque formation on the teeth making teeth appear dirty.
  • Sore throat: Smokeing affects the voice of a smoker, making it sound hoarse.
  • Reduced sense of taste: Smoking affects the power of the taste buds.
  • Cavities: Smokers develop teeth caries eventually which causes teeth decay. This may lead to teeth loss.
  • Gum inflammation: Smoking causes the gums to swell. This is one of the warning signs of gum diseases.
  • Gum diseases: Smokers often suffer from gingivitis and periodontitis.
  • Oral cancer: Smokers have a high risk of developing oral cancer.
  • Tooth loss: Cavities, gum diseases, and other problems may eventually lead to tooth loss in smokers.

Cutting down smoking is not only important for your overall health but also for preserving the captivating smile you are so proud of.
