Is Your Mouth a Playground for Bacteria?

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 12:35 pm under Dental Care

Do you have to chew gum frequently because your mouth stinks? Are your teeth stained? You may be giving way too much freedom to bacteria in your mouth. And bacteria are organisms even though they are extremely tiny. But there are tiny organisms having a field day in your mouth if you don’t care about oral health. And if you do care, here’s what you have got to do.

  • Brush on time, every time: Brushing is the most important step in keeping the mouth clean. It is our teeth that hold the maximum amount of food particles after we have eaten. Our teeth need thorough cleaning to prevent bacteria from flourishing in the mouth.

  • Floss everyday: While brushing cleans the surface of the teeth, it is flossing that can remove food particles from between the teeth. Floss every day to make sure that no food particle is left on the teeth to attract bacteria.
  • Scrape your tongue once a day: An unclean tongue can become safe haven for bacteria. Use a tongue scraper to clean your tongue gently. Make sure you do not scrape your tongue too hard. Scraping it too vigorously can open pores in the tongue, making it a good home for bacteria.
  • Rinse your mouth after eating or drinking anything: While we brush our teeth after meals, we forget to clean our mouth after a snack. Make it a habit to rinse your mouth after you have consumed anything, be it a wafer or a sip of coffee.

And don’t forget to visit your dentist every six months if you don’t want to end up going to the dental clinic more frequently. Happy smiling!
