Maintaining oral hygiene

Oral hygiene is all about keeping your mouth clean and healthy. This not only keeps your smile sparkling but also brightens your personality. You are maintaining proper standards of hygiene if you do the following:

  • You brush at least twice a day, preferably after meals.
  • You brush before going to bed. This prevents bacteria from damaging your teeth while you are asleep.
  • You floss once a day. This helps clean the corners of the teeth that brushing cannot.
  • You clean your tongue regularly.
  • Your toothbrush is not older than three months. Even if it not that old, change it if the bristles of your toothbrush are not torn or tattered.
  • You drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. This will keep your mouth clean and hydrated.
  • You rinse your mouth thoroughly after you have eaten or drink anything.
  • You avoid fizzy drinks. Fizzy drinks cause erosion of the enamel of the teeth.
  • You eat whole fruits instead of drinking fruit juices.
  • If you have to drink a juice, you use the straw.

Oral hygiene is all about keeping your mouth clean and avoiding bad dental habits. Also, you need to make sure that you visit the dentist once in every six months. You can go for a professional teeth cleaning once in six months. If you are in Minneapolis, visit the smile spa at the Wayzata Dental Clinic.

Inform your dentist of the slightest symptom of a dental problem. He/she will ensure that your teeth and gums are always healthy.

Happy smiling!
