October is Dental Hygiene Month

It’s that time of the year again. October is celebrated as the National Dental Hygiene Month by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). Now, hygiene is something that is expected of everyone and the absence of which can chase people away. Dental hygiene holds a lot of importance in our daily lives.

Dental hygiene implies healthy teeth. The following are the indicators of dental hygiene.

  • Clean and sparkling teeth

  • Absence of stains and tartar
  • No dental problem or gum disease
  • Fresh breath all the time

Here’s how you can practice dental hygiene.

  • Brush at least twice a day, preferably after meals.

  • Brush before going to bed.
  • Floss once everyday, immediately after you have brushed your teeth.
  • Clean the tongue everyday with a tongue-scraper.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Rinse the mouth thoroughly after eating or drinking anything.
  • Cut down on sugary snacks.
  • Eat balanced meals.

Practicing oral hygiene minimizes the chances of any oral problem. It keeps bacteria at bay, thus preventing the formation of tartar on the teeth.

You should also make sure that you visit your dentist at least once every six months. In fact, visit him/her sooner if you notice a dental problem.

Oh yeah, if you go to your favorite dental clinic this month, make sure to visit the dental hygienist and greet him/her. And even if you don’t have any plans to go, drop in to get acquainted to him/her. I am sure your enthusiasm will make his/her day. What say?

Happy smiling!
