Dental bonding is a great way to correct discolored or chipped teeth and is one of the easiest and cost-effective cosmetic procedures.

Dental bonding. You may have heard this treatment before but not sure exactly what it is in the cosmetic dentistry world.

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material is applied and hardened with a special light – this ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth to restore a person’s smile.

Other things that dental bonding takes care of include:

Repair chipped or cracked teeth.

Improve the appearance of discolored teeth.

Close spaces between teeth.

Repair decayed teeth.

Make teeth look longer and change shape of the teeth.

An alternative to amalgam fillings.

Protect a portion of the tooth’s exposed root.

Dental bonding is among the easiest and least expensive of cosmetic dental procedures. Unlike veneers and crowns, which are customized tooth coverings that must be manufactured, bonding usually can be done in a single office visit unless several teeth are required to work on.

Another advantage is that a small amount of tooth enamel is removed. Also, unless dental bonding is being performed to fill a cavity, anesthesia is normally not required.

There are some disadvantages though. Although the material used in dental bonding is stain resistant, it does not resist stains as well as crowns. Bonding materials do not last as long nor are as strong as other restorative procedures and can chip and break off the tooth.

If you are confused on the type of cosmetic dentistry you need to get, consider talking with the staff of Wayzata Dental & SmileSpa. We are a Minnetonka cosmetic dentist office that works with different types of treatment, including professional teeth whitening, and can steer you in the right direction.

There are advantages and disadvantages of having dental veneers. It's good to have all the information before making any decisions.

Dental veneers offer several advantages, but there are also a few disadvantages. Here is a quick look at the pros and cons of dental veneers so you can decide with confidence when making plans for future cosmetic dental treatments.

The Advantages of Dental Veneers

• Veneers provide a natural tooth appearance.
•	Gum tissue tolerates the porcelain very well.
•	Stain resistant.
•	You and your dentist can select the color of a porcelain veneer
•	Veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth’s color and shape — veneers generally don’t require the extensive shaping prior to the procedure that dental crowns do, yet offer a stronger, more aesthetic alternative.

What Are the Disadvantages of Dental Veneers?

•	The process is not reversible.
•	Cost. Veneers are normally more costly than bonding.
•	Unrepairable if you chip or crack it.
•	Because enamel has been removed, your tooth may become more sensitive to heat and cold.
•	Veneers can dislodge and fall off. To minimize the chance of this occurring, do not bite your nails; chew on pencils, ice or anything else too hard.
•	Teeth with veneers can still experience tooth decay, possibly necessitating full coverage of the tooth with a crown.
•	Veneers are not a good choice if you have bad dental health, unhealthy teeth such as decay, or gum disease.
•	Individuals who clench and grind teeth shouldn’t get porcelain veneers due to possible cracking and chipping.

Dental veneers do not require any special care. Following good oral hygiene practices including brushing and flossing is important. Contact us to talk about possible veneers for you. We are a Plymouth family dentistry that will help you make right dental choices to get that great smile.

Dental bonding is a procedure that is used for a variety of dental problems. The process involves the application of a thin coat of plastic material to the front surface of a tooth. A cosmetic dentist will then apply a bonding material, which is then colored and shaped to provide a finish that matches the surrounding teeth. A high-intensity light is then used to harden the plastic for a permanent finish. Once the cosmetic dentist is happy with the results, the surface is finely polished.

The results are very good as the tooth is restored to normal and looks very much like the teeth around it. So when is dental bonding used? There are a wide variety of situations where dental bonding could be the best option, and this is for both front and back teeth.

One of the more commonly used follows the treatment for decay to a tooth’s front surface. The decay is removed and a traditional filling used. The bonding is then placed over the filling to hide any signs. Bonding is also useful as a cosmetic option when it comes to changing the color of a tooth, or when a tooth requires minor reshaping.

Bonding is completed in one sitting, and where problems are only minor it can be an easier and quicker option when compared to other treatments such as veneers. The plastic used in the dental bonding process generally lasts eight to twelve years with little loss of color or shape. Bonding can also help to add a little strength to your teeth and will not affect your day-to-day cleaning regime.

Television shows have in recent years made fun of makeovers. However, when it comes to a cosmetic smile makeover, rather than making fun of it, you should think of it as returning the fun to your life. A makeover could involve some gentle tidying up of your teeth, or it could refer to a complete renovation job. It all depends on the state of your teeth and how much of your smile you want to gain back.

Some of the techniques involved in a cosmetic smile makeover include:

teeth whitening – using a process to remove stains and return your teeth to their natural color;

bonding – bonding is a process where a tooth is reshaped and a bond glued to the tooth to return it to its normal state;

porcelain veneers – veneers are a very thin layer that is bonded on to a tooth. They can be a very quick way of hiding past damage and returning the tooth to its natural looking state;

dental crowns – where a veneer is a thin sheet of material that is bonded to a tooth, a crown is a solid partial tooth that is bonded onto a broken or damaged tooth.

cleaning – almost all dental treatments start by having your teeth cleaned properly. You would be surprised to see how much of a stain a good clean can remove.

While no treatment is guaranteed to be permanent, you would be surprised to see how many treatments have a long term life spans. If you feel your teeth could do with a cosmetic smile makeover, contact a dental team that are experts in the art – it will be well worth the investment.

More often than not, people visit the dentist only for two reasons: when they want to clean/whiten their teeth or when they want to get treated for a dental problem. But what about those flaws that mar the confidence in your smile? Would you rather hide them than get them rectified? If your teeth have been damaged in some way, you don’t have to hide them; you just need to get an appointment with your dentist. Let’s look at some dental procedures that will rectify dental flaws.

If you have spots and stains on your teeth or if you have chipped teeth or if there are gaps between your teeth, your dentist will suggest bonding. Bonding is a dental procedure which involves applying an enamel-like material to the teeth to correct visible flaws.

Some types of teeth damages need veneers. Veneers form the restorative treatment for teeth wherein a thin layer of material is applied to the teeth. Veneers help cover the tooth in order to prevent further damage to it. Veneers are of many kinds, the two most popular being porcelain veneers and prep-less veneers like Durathin and Lumineers.

Contouring and reshaping are yet another way to rectify flaws in your teeth. They help improve the way your teeth and smile look. Contouring and reshaping can help fix broken, chipped, or crooked teeth. Contouring also helps change the length of your teeth, making all teeth proportionate.

If you have been hiding your smile for way too long, it is time you visited the dental clinic and come out with a smile to die for.

Happy smiling!

Cosmetic dentistry can help enhance your smile to a great extent. You don’t need to fuss over your dental flaws any longer. A couple of visits to the dental clinic can get you that perfect smile you have been looking for. Cosmetic dentistry is pretty smart. Let me tell you how.

You can get invisible braces. Such braces can magically fix your teeth without embarrassing you. These braces correct the shape of your teeth set from behind the teeth so that no one else can see that you are wearing braces.

You can contour and reshape your teeth for an improved smile. Contouring and reshaping correct errors like chipped and broken teeth. Along with correcting the shape of your teeth, contouring helps change the length of your teeth.

A dental procedure called enamel micro-abrasion helps remove stains and spots on your teeth. The teeth are typically rubbed with a compound to remove the stains. The procedure does not take too much time and is considered safe for your teeth.

The advancements in cosmetic dentistry can give you instant results now. Zoom whitening is a process that whitens your teeth in less than an hour! This kind of whitening must be done by a professional though. If your teeth are sensitive, you may feel temporary itching or a stinging sensation during the procedure.

Veneers are a great way to restore your teeth if you have managed to damage them. A thin layer of material is used to cover your tooth in order to prevent further damage to it. Veneers are also used just for cosmetic purposes; they help improve the look of your teeth.

Bonding is another smart procedure that helps hide spots and stains, cover any chip in the teeth or fill a gap. It involves applying an enamel-like material to the teeth and fixing it to make it a part of the teeth.

Don’t let any dental flaw or problem keep you away from smiling and laughing away. Visit your dentist right away.

Dental bonding does exactly what any kind of ‘bonding’ is supposed to do. It bonds. Yes, dental bonding is the corrective treatment for crooked, chipped and even stained teeth. In fact, it also helps fill gaps between teeth.

What exactly happens in the bonding procedure? A composite material is put on or between teeth. This helps correct any visible flaws. So, if you have any dental flaw, don’t hide it; visit your dental clinic to get it rectified. Not sure about it? Let me answer some of the questions that you may have in your mind now.

Is bonding painful?
No. Bonding is not considered painful. However, some people feel a little sensitivity after the procedure in the areas near the bonded teeth.

Is it expensive?
Well, you will be surprised. Bonding is considered the least expensive of all dental treatments.

How many times do I have to go to the dentist?
Typically, the procedure gets over in one visit to the dentist.

Is bonding really good?
Yes. If you are concerned about the shade of bonding matching your teeth, you’ll be happy to learn that the material used for bonding is available in many shades. This ensures that the bonding matches your teeth as closely as possible.

Moreover, the procedure does not require the entire tooth to be removed, just the infected part.

Another good thing about bonding is that the material used in bonding grows along with your teeth, thus avoiding the development of any cracks. Bonding can last several years, anything between seven years to eleven years.

Are there any precautions I have to take after the procedure?
Here are some of the precautions you should take after you have undergone bonding.
- Avoid biting your nails.
- Avoid chewing on anything other than food.
- Visit your dentist right away if the bonding material starts chipping off.

Rush to the dentist today if you have a dental flaw you would like corrected.

Happy smiling!

Bonding is one of the restorative treatments that rectify crooked, chipped, and stained teeth. In fact, bonding also helps fill gaps between teeth. In the bonding procedure, a composite material, typically resin, is used (bonded) on or between teeth to correct any visible flaws.

The good news is that the bonding procedure is completed in one visit to the dentist. It is also considered the least expensive of all dental treatments. And yeah, it is painless too. Some people may feel a little sensitivity in the areas near the bonded teeth.

The benefits of bonding include the following:

The bonded tooth matches the shade of your teeth as closely as possible.

The composite material used in bonding sticks to your teeth firmly.

The procedure does not require the entire tooth o be removed, just the infected part.

The material used in bonding grows along with your teeth, thus avoiding the development of any cracks.

Once treated, you can flash your bright smile for years. Bonding lasts several years, anything between seven years to eleven years. However, the duration depends on the person’s dental habits.

Your dentist will give you tips to handle your teeth after the procedure. Make sure you don’t bite your nails. Avoid chewing on anything other than food. It is important to visit your dentist right away if the bonding material starts chipping off.

My maternal aunt has been wary of cosmetic dentistry. And like every other person, she hates visiting the dentist. Last year, she managed to get a tooth chipped and developed a strange habit. She smiled with her mouth closed. It made her look much older than she is. Her husband goaded her into visiting the dentist, and when I saw her a couple of weeks after, she flashed a fabulous grin. Her smile was as warm as ever and gorgeous too. I later learnt that she went for the contouring procedure.

More often than not, we start living with problems instead of getting it resolved. While bigger problems in life may be difficult to resolve, the problems of your teeth can be resolved by a visit to the dentist. Make that visit to the dentist right away if you have a dental problem bothering you. And remember, your dentist is not a monster, and nor is cosmetic dentistry.

Let me tell you all that cosmetic dentistry can do for you.

Contouring and reshaping are methods to fix broken, chipped, or crooked teeth. Along with correcting the shape of your teeth, contouring helps change the length of your teeth. Zoom whitening is a process that whitens your teeth in less than an hour! Moreover, there aren’t any major side-effects. There is something called invisible braces correct the shape of your teeth set from behind the teeth so that no one else can find out that you are wearing braces.

Enamel micro-abrasion is a method by which the stained teeth are rubbed with a compound to remove any stains and spots. Bonding is a procedure that helps hide spots and stains, cover any chip in the teeth or fill a gap. It involves applying an enamel-like material to the teeth and fixing it to make it a part of the teeth.

Don’t let small problems ruin your smile and personality. Go to your dentist right away!
