Most of us know that brushing and flossing are integral to good dental care but we ignore certain guidelines that make these activities give the desired result. In today’s post, we will discuss some pointers to everyday dental care.

Spend enough time in rushing the teeth.
Brush your teeth for at least two-three minutes every time. The best way to ensure that you spend enough time in brushing is by playing your favorite song while you brush. This way, you will also find yourself relaxed during the activity.

Be gentle to the teeth while brushing.
Avoid brush your teeth too hard. Brushing hard harms both the teeth enamel and the gums. Your gums may bleed if you are rough on your teeth.

Do not brush too soon.
Do not brush too soon after eating or drinking. Wait for about an hour before you brush. The acids in the food make the enamel soft and susceptible to damage. The enamel hardens itself after some time. There should be an interval of 45-60 minutes between eating food and brushing.

Avoid scraping your tongue too much.
It is important not to scrape your tongue too hard. Scraping too much can cause bacteria to build up in the pores of the tongue, making way for diseases in the mouth.

Visit your dentist regularly.
Ideally, you should visit your dentist every six months. However, you should not ignore any problem in your mouth any time between the visits, however insignificant the problem may look.

Happy smiling!

If you have been reading this blog or have paused at a dental care tip given in a magazine, you know that there are plenty of things to follow in dental care. Upcoming research keeps adding to the list of tips on dental care, making it difficult for you to keep a track of them. Here’s a summary of important dental care tips and guidelines.

Avoid grinding or clenching your teeth.

Brush after every meal. This helps your mouth clean.

Brush before going to bed. The bacteria flourish when you are asleep. Make sure you get rid of food debris in your mouth before you go to bed.

Brush at least an hour after a meal.

Brush for at least three minutes every time.

Change your toothbrush every three months. Change it earlier if the bristles look tattered.

Clean your tongue using a tongue scrapper once a day. Make sure you do not scrape too hard.

Cut down on smoking and drinking.

Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Do not snack on sweets between meals.

Do not use your teeth as tools to open bottles or break a tag.

Do not bite your nails.

Eat sweets only during meals.

Eat fruits instead of drinking the juices.

Eat at least one dairy product everyday.

Eat a cube of cheese immediately after a meal. This neutralizes the affects of food-acids on your teeth.

Eat fruits and vegetables. They will provide you all the necessary nutrients for healthy teeth and a sparkling smile.

Floss your teeth immediately after you have brushed. This will help keep the mouth clean.

Rinse your mouth after eating anything.

Spend at least 3 minutes on brushing.

See your dentist at least once in six months.

Use a toothbrush with soft bristles.

Use a straw when drinking a beverage.

Happy smiling!
