Stress is omnipotent. It has great power – to damage, destroy, and disturb. Do you know that stress can damage your smile too? Not sure about it? Let me explain.

What do you do when you are stressed? You do a lot of things but it almost always begins with ignoring your health. You ignore regular oral care. This makes the mouth susceptible to various dental problems and gum diseases.

Some people grind their teeth when stressed, This, as you know, is a bad dental habit. It causes you teeth to chip or break.

Many take to smoking and drinking in order to de-stress. This increases the chances of being affected by gum diseases and other dental problems.

Now, let me talk about some direct affects of stress. Stress causes dry mouth, attaracting bacteria. Stress is also responsible for canker sores, burning mouth, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), and myofacial pain dysfunction (MPD).

If you have been stressed for too long, you body loses the power to fight infections, making you prone to the gum diseases – gingivitis and periodontitis.

Even the typical cure from stress can cause problems. Some anti-depressants and stress-relieving medicine can cause dry mouth. One of the side effects of such medication is vomiting which can cause erosion of the teeth enamel.

I know avoiding stress is not easy but you have to learn to fight it back. Try smiling at people when you are stressed. Your smile will not only help you feel better but also help others smile.

Keep smiling!

You already know that stress affects your smile. It ceases to be genuine and warm when you are stressed. But did you know that stress affects your dental health? What stress does not affect, you would ask. True, it is an all-pervasive problem. And it can trigger many more – psychological, physical, social. We will restrict our discussion to stress and dental health. Let’s look at the connection closely.

People who are stressed ignore a lot of important things including oral care. This makes the mouth susceptible to various dental problems and gum diseases. Some start smoking or drinking more in order to ‘de-stress’ themselves. This increases the chances of being affected by gum diseases and other dental problems.

Some people start grinding their teeth when stressed. This habit causes their teeth to chip or break.

If stress prolongs for too long, it makes it difficult for the body to fight infections, making you prone to the gum diseases – gingivitis and periodontitis.

Stress is directly responsible for conditions like dry mouth, canker sores, burning mouth, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), and myofacial pain dysfunction (MPD).

Some anti-depressants and stress-relieving medicine can cause dental problems such as dry mouth. Also, one of the side effects of such medication is vomiting which can cause erosion of the teeth enamel.

Don’t stop paying attention to yourself because you are stressed about something. Don’t miss your appointments with the dentist. Maintaining a smile will not only help reduce your stress but also brighten others’ days.

Keep smiling!

With recession affecting economies the world over, stress has found another reason to bother people. Stress affects each and everyone of us, and it can hit us anytime. Most of us know of how stress affects our mental and physical well being. Among other things, stress is responsible for affecting our dental health as well. In today’s post, we will look at how exactly stress and dental health are related.

Stress is directly responsible for conditions like dry mouth, canker sores, burning mouth, temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ), and myofacial pain dysfunction (MPD).

Prolonged stress makes it difficult for the body to fight infections, making you prone to the gum diseases – gingivitis and periodontitis.

Stress causes people to ignore oral care. This makes the mouth susceptible to various dental problems and gum diseases.

There is one habit that many develop while they are in stress. They start grinding their teeth. This habit causes their teeth to chip or break.

Some anti-depressants and stress-relieving medicine can cause dental problems such as dry mouth. Also, one of the side effects of such medication is vomiting which can cause erosion of the teeth enamel.

People who are stressed look at different ways of de-stressing themselves. However, some tend to smoke and drink more in order to de-stress. This increases the chances of being affected by gum diseases and other dental problems.

It is important that you do not miss your appointments with the dentist. Try to pay attention to your smile, irrespective of what is going on in your life. Your smile can help recover not only you from stress but also several others.

Happy smiling!
