The problem of stained teeth
A friend of mine called me up before an important date and asked if there were any quick fix teeth-whitening tips I could give her. I asked why she doesn’t bother to take care of her teeth on a daily basis. She said she didn’t have the time. I gave her the baking soda tip that I mentioned in an earlier post (Five Ways to Whiten Your Teeth), but not without giving her my sermon on dental care. I wonder why dental care takes the least priority on our personal grooming list. After all, the smile is dependent on dental care. In today’s post, we’ll look at the reasons of stained teeth.
The factors causing stained teeth are plenty. While there may be several health reasons causing our teeth to discolour, most of the time, we bring upon the discoloration on our own. Here’s how.
- By drinking caffeine-based beverages like tea or coffee frequently
- By eating chocolate and not following it up with thorough cleaning of the mouth
- By smoking
- By drinking red wine too frequently
- By drinking fizzy drinks
- By not maintaining dental hygiene
Some medicines may also cause the teeth to stain. Ask your dentist to request that your doctor prescribe substitutes for them.
Stained teeth do not always mean an absence of dental care. They may also mean that you have tooth decay. Tooth decay causes parts of your teeth to become brown in color. A dental injury can also cause the teeth to stain.
Many people with stained teeth look for a remedy in over-the-counter whitening products. While they may work for some stains, they essentially bring temporary relief. If you would like to see long-terms results, go to your nearest smile spa for a royal experience. If you are in Wayzata, take a peek at the most technologically-advanced smile spa.
While there are ways your dentist can remove the stains off your teeth, it is better to prevent them than to look for a cure.
Happy smiling!
