The Teething Tale of the Wisdom Tooth

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 12:48 pm under Know your teeth

Teething is terrible. You may not remember how you felt when you had all those teeth growing in your mouth, but a look at any growing kid will make you thank having passed that phase. However, the worst is not over yet. Count your teeth and if you don’t have 32 yet, be prepared for the pain. The arrival of the wisdom teeth is marked by a discomfort for almost everyone.

A little discomfort is fine, but if the growth of a wisdom tooth becomes intolerable, you need to visit the dentist. Let us look at the signs that indicate there is a problem with the growth of such teeth.

  • The pain in the growth area keeps increasing.

  • The wisdom tooth doesn’t have enough space to grow.
  • The growing tooth interferes with the tongue, the cheek, and other areas in the mouth.
  • There is swelling in the gums near the growth area.

Don’t live with the uncomfortable growth just because you have been told it is painful. The problem may go on to become monstrous if you ignore it. Inform your dentist of the problem. He/she will find the root cause of the problem and treat it.

For immediate relief from the pain, you can use an ice pack on the cheek. However, this brings temporary relief. You should see a dentist at the earliest to get proper treatment.

When the wisdom tooth comes, remember that it is just a phase. However, see your dentist if you cannot stand the pain.

Happy smiling!
