The Toothache That Troubles

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 7:00 pm under Dental Health

I think headaches and toothaches are the worst often-occurring pains one experiences. While rest and some other things can help you get rid of the headache, a toothache may trouble you for days without you being able to do anything about it. Does toothache indicate something? Yes, it does. It may indicate anything from the birth of a wisdom tooth, a broken tooth, a cavity in a tooth, a problem in the jaw, a gum disease, a spasm in the jaw muscles, an infection in a tooth’s pulp to a mouth injury. A toothache may be a result of one or more of these conditions.

Several factors can worsen your already troubling toothache. When you have a toothache, try to keep away from exposure to extreme temperatures. Avoid eating food that is too hot or too cold. And avoid food that requires you to chew too much.

In order to minimize the pain, you can do the following:

  • Gargle with lukewarm water. Use lukewarm water to rinse your mouth as much as possible.
  • Clean your teeth thoroughly and makes sure there is nothing stuck between the teeth.
  • Avoid eating very cold or hot food. Extreme temperature food aggravates the pain.
  • Do not eat sweet or sour food. They cause the pain to worsen.

If your toothache lasts for more than a day, see your dentist immediately. Ignoring the pain is not a good idea. If your toothache makes it difficult for you to eat, don’t even wait for a day; consult your dentist at once.

Happy smiling!
