The Truth Behind Teeth Whitening

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 3:49 am under Whitening

How many of you have looked up ‘teeth whitening’ on the Net at least once? I know some of you may have been reading up on teeth whitening almost every week. The smile is definitely an important part of one’s personality. But how many times have you thought of something other than whitening your teeth to improve your smile? You know, there are so many other things we can do. We can get those teeth errors rectified, get rid of bad breath, stop the bleeding of gums, and get the gaps filled. There are many things you can do to brighten your smile, and they don’t need to start with a visit to your dentist. You can begin at home. See if you are following a proper dental care routine, and if not, begin today.

Teeth whitening procedures bring instant gratification, I agree. But the results won’t last long, especially if you are not the kind to pay attention to dental care. One thing that most of us aren’t aware of is that the color of our teeth depends on our complexion. People with fairer skin have slightly yellow teeth while people with darker skin have whiter teeth. Now, this is the natural color. If you try making your teeth whiter than how they should naturally be, you may scare people away.

The factors that cause our teeth to stain include:

  • Poor oral hygiene – You can’t expect your teeth to sparkle while bacteria play in their backyard!
  • Smoking – Oh, this was obvious, and you have known it all along.
  • Consumption of fizzy drinks – They were never good for you and now you have another reason to shun them.
  • Excessive consumption of coffee and tea – Some of us take coffee for a medicine and gulp a cup down every time we are tense.

I say, don’t let these factors overpower your will and fight back. Start following a proper dental care routine today. And on your next visit to the dentist, ask him/her to provide you with more oral care tips.

Happy smiling!
