Understanding dental hygiene
Dental hygiene and dental care are terms that are often used interchangeably. Dental care refers to the act of practicing dental hygiene.
What is dental hygiene?
The term, dental hygiene simply refers to the act of keeping the teeth and the gums clean. Dental hygiene helps keep off plaque and tartar, thus not only keeping the teeth visibly healthy but also warding off teeth and gum problems.
What comprises dental hygiene?
A proper dental care routine is integral to maintaining dental hygiene. Let us look at some more tips towards healthy and good-looking teeth.
- Drink plenty of water, after consuming beverages, sweets, or even otherwise. Water helps cleanse your mouth and your entire system. It also helps keep your mouth salivated.
- Avoid eating anything sweet between meals. Sugar is well taken in by the body when consumed with a meal.
- Invest a minimum of two minutes brushing your teeth.
- Avoid food and beverages that can stain your teeth. You know what we are talking about. Cut down on smoking and drinking coffee and red wine.
- Go for a fruit instead of its liquid version. A fruit is always a better pick than a glass of juice.
- Do not ignore any tooth while brushing. If you wanna keep it, you gotta clean it!
- Do not use your teeth as an instrument to cut, peel, or unscrew. You do not need to prove the strength of your teeth this way.
- Do no miss your appointments with the dentist.
Happy smiling!
