Understanding Veneers

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 10:39 pm under Cosmetic Dentistry, Veneers

A dental procedure employed for cosmetic purposes as well as restorative purposes are veneers. Veneers are thin layers of a material such as porcelain or composite used to cover damaged teeth to protect them against further damage. Veneers help improve the look of your teeth.

Veneers are typically used in the following dental conditions:

  • Broken tooth

  • Discolored teeth
  • Malocclusion

There are two broad categories of veneers:

  • Prep veneers
Prep veneers require a certain amount of preparation before they can be fit onto your teeth. Porcelain veneers typically fall under this category.

  • Prepless veneers
Prepless veneers strive to minimize the preparation required before the actual fitting. Durathin and Lumineers are popular prepless veneers.

Veneers fixed by experts last several years. However, make sure you do not take the new appearance of your teeth for granted. Follow a proper dental care routine and avoid bad dental habits.

Happy smiling!
