Ward Off Gum Diseases Before They Rob You Of Your Smile

What is the first thing that tells you whether or not someone practices oral hygiene? The smile. Most people will credit a healthy smile to a healthy teeth. But what if the gums were damaged? The smile will no longer remain bright and healthy if the gums were infected in any way. Gums are what provide the support for teeth. It is, therefore, important that you don’t ignore any signs of a gum disease. The symptoms of gingivitis and periodontitis include the following:

  • The gums appear swollen and red.

  • The gums feel softer than normal.
  • The gums become soft.
  • The teeth loosen.
  • The gums bleed without much pressure.
  • The gums frequently bleed during brushing.
  • The breath smells bad.
  • There is a sour taste in the mouth.
  • The gums change their color from pink to red.
  • The gums sag and appear loose, giving more space to the teeth.
  • There is pus between the teeth and the gums.
  • The gap between teeth starts widening.

It is always a better idea to prevent these diseases than get them treated. You should start with following a good dental care routine. Try to eat balanced meals. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. It is also important that you cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke everyday.

Women undergoing hormonal changes are highly susceptible to gum diseases. It is important that they take extra care.

Visit your dentist regularly will ensure that no problem goes unnoticed. If you do notice the slightest sign of any kind of dental or gum problem, inform your dentist.
