What is CEREC?
On your visits to the dentist or on hoardings advertising dental clinics, you must have come across the term CEREC. What is it anyway? It’s an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. If the expansion doesn’t make sense, here’s what it refers to: a one-sitting restoration of teeth with the help of computers and certain software.
Yeah, computers have invaded dentistry too. Now, let me tell you what happens in the CEREC restoration. Essentially, a ceramic crown or veneer is fixed into the mouth. Now, CEREC differs from other procedures in the way the restorations are created. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) along with 3-D imaging help create crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays.
If you go for CEREC restoration, you tooth will first be coated with a powder-like substance. Then a 3-D image of your tooth will be captured. Some software will help design the restoration you need – crown, veneer, inlay, or onlay. Later this design will be used to manufacture the perfect restoration for your tooth. And it will take no more than a few minutes. Technology is taking dentistry to the next level!
The biggest advantage of CEREC is that it saves time. Also, since the procedure gets over in one visit to the dentist, you don’t have to live with the uncomfortable temporary fillings etc.
If you stay in Wayzata, you can visit the Wayzata Dental Clinic and inquire about the CEREC procedure. It is important that you let experts perform the restoration.
Happy smiling!
