Your Habits May Be Damaging Your Teeth

Published by Wayzata Dental Staff at 2:33 pm under Teeth Maintenance

Being late everywhere, snoring, sneering and the like are not what I am talking about. These habits don’t affect your teeth, at least not directly. Indirect connections? Let me leave that discussion for another post. There are certain habits – of course, bad ones – that affect your teeth miserably. Are you guilty of damaging your teeth, if not intentionally? Let’s find out.

Do you grind your teeth?

Grinding of teeth is bad habit however you try to justify it.
Affects: Grinding causes chipping of teeth.
Solution: Start with asking someone to point it out to you or penalize you every time you grind. If you cannot stop grinding your teeth, visit your dentist to find if there is an underlying problem.

Do you bite your nails?

Nail-biting is a bad habit in every way.
Affects: Nail-biting does not only harm your nails but also causes chipping of teeth.
Solution: Again, ask a friend to penalize you every time you are caught biting your nails.

Do you open bottles with your teeth?

Teeth are strong bones, alright, but they are not supposed to be used as tools.
Affects: You risk not only chipping your teeth but also breaking them.
Solution: Get an opener!

Do you pick your teeth with anything available?

Using things like the pin or the clip for picking your teeth is just not done. Frequent use of toothpicks is also not recommended.
Affects: You will scratch the surface of your teeth or make your gums bleed by picking teeth this way.
Solution: Brush and floss your teeth after a meal. If you had a snack, rinse your mouth properly.

Happy smiling!
